he does indeed, and yet BB's banter is quite enjoyable ... i even listen to certain performances (he's on the Archive) due to his monologues rather than the music ... the other artist i enjoy hearing speak is Loudon Wainwright, but other than those two artists that come to mind, i agree with you 100%, just shut up and sing, especially if you don't know what the hell you're talking about and have the brain of a stone

Leo Kottke and Joh Prine never fail to amuse between songs...

well, i am unfamiliar with those artists, but let me elaborate on what i stated above ... the reason i give the OK to BB & LW is due to the fact that their non-music between song banter during their live sets is really nothing more than an extension of their music and their particular philosophies, nor do either of them come across as commercial corporate hacks, such as mr. bono and mr. springsteen

the last thing i want to hear at a live show is some artist spouting off, about whatever, some other artist, their morning's breakfast, fucking butterflies or rosalita, i don't wanna hear it ... if the banter is a direct extension to the music, and if it's the sort of music that allows it (humour and politics the only two themes i can imagine would allow it), then fine, bring it on and i'll likely not mind, but if you're a R&R artist (and it's various sub-genres), i don't want to pay good money to hear your bobble head speak

in fact, get rid of the 'band intros' too, they're a waste of time and i don't recall the GD ever doing so

I saw Leo Kottke twice ('94 and '01), he told the same jokes both times ;D
